How can the recipient know which country I am sending an e-mail from?

I recently sent an question to a site who have experts in certain medical fields. The guy knew which country I was in, even though my e-mail is registered in Yahoo UK (thus: I do not live in UK). How did he know where I am located? Is it possibly to do with the IP address??
