If the car hasn't been driven for a long time, is it possible to get the registration time back?

My friend has lost his license for 6 months. His car is registered until January, so he lost his license just after he registered his car, but he hasn't driven it. Is it at all possible to contact the RTA and get the registration time back (6 months)? I live in Australia.
