Why do atheists blame religion?

Those advancements were pushed outside of the religious realm. Now, religion has had to conform to scientific thought in order to keep members, so they are just now beginning to push the uniformity of religion and science. Before all this technology, we had people being killed for trying to prove something occurred that wasn't directly connected with God or a god.
